Descrizione

The first edition of the Musica Futura Conference will take place in December.
Conceived by Nuova Consonanza, the conference is dedicated to contemporary compositional practices.

The event will be held at Il Mattatoio di Roma La Pelanda and will feature seminars, a roundtable discussion, and open paper sessions on composition. It welcomes doctoral candidates, early-career researchers, composers, performers, musicologists, and artists of any background who wish to engage with themes relating to current compositional practices and aesthetics.

All contributions must address musical practice from the post-World War II period onwards. References to earlier practices are admissible, provided a clear and creative connection to present-day compositional work is demonstrated. Papers of a purely historical or musicological nature, focused on composers of the past, however recent, with no discernible relevance to current compositional practice will be considered outside the scope of the conference.

Publication of the proceedings in open-access online format is currently under consideration.

Open paper sessions may address the following areas:

  • Instrumental and vocal music
  • Electronic music and multimedia
  • Music theatre, performative practices, transmediality

Papers must not exceed 20 minutes and may be delivered in Italian or English. Each proposer or group of proposers may submit one proposal only, not exceeding 2,000 characters including spaces.

Applicants will be notified of the outcome by the end of September. All submissions will be reviewed by a scientific committee appointed by Nuova Consonanza. Audio and video support is available for presentations; any technical requirements must be arranged in advance with the conference organisers.

Attendance is free of charge. To ensure the quality of the event, selected speakers are required to attend in person; remote or online presentations will not be accepted.
