This year, the competition is dedicated to compositions that, deviating from the notion of ’closed score’, have the form of ’open’ works, of a nature attributable to the vast territory of random or aleatoric music, composed using one or more of the following formal criteria for the composition:

  • Graphic and / or visual writing;
  • Textual or verbal indications;
  • Solutions for specific direction indications;
  • Architectures in random form or in ’open form’;
  • Improvisation guidelines;

therefore presenting the possibility, also, of composite works, which may include various types of notation, including - but not exclusively – conventional notation. Particularly interesting for this context will be the consideration, evident in the composition, whereby the author is able to direct the compositional problems in the creation of a piece that involves the interpreters directly in interpretative choices, while maintaining in a defined way a specific compositional approach.
The composition may involve the whole ensemble or part of it, in any combination (also solo instrument). Length of the composition must not exceed 10 minutes. Any candidate can compete anonymously with one or more works. It is possible to submit compositions that have already been played, as long as they are unpublished and have not been awarded any prize in other contests.
